A set of about 15 keywords enable ILOG BROKER's preprocessor to generate standard C++ code. Once the header files have been annotated, the preprocessor automatically generates the C++ source code to build the distributed application. Communication between objects is performed through the use of local surrogates calling methods on the real implementation objects across a network. The current implementation relies on RPC for the transportation layer. ILOG BROKER annotations have also been designed to generate IDL code for CORBA 2 specifications. ILOG BROKER does not impose the use of a dedicated server. Each object in the distributed application can be both a client and a server to and for other objects, therefore providing a true peer-to-peer programming tool. Cost: $5,000 per Unix-based development license. Preferred university rates available upon request.
